80.5 x 45.5 x 6 cm
Naturally dyed SeaCell fibre, bamboo/silk embroidery thread, viscose embroidery thread and kelp seaweed sequins.
Framed in a tray frame, painted in Farrow & Ball's Dimity.
£3,795
About
Embellished with seaweed that has been hand harvested, under license, from beaches close to Edinburgh. Jasmine harvests the kelp seaweed herself and processes the seaweed into sequins in her Edinburgh-based studio.
Whilst the kelp goes through its numerous processes to get to the final sequin, Jasmine naturally dyes SeaCell fibre and turns it into fabric using hand and machine embroidery techniques. She has named her fabric, SeaCell fibre embroidered fabric.
The SeaCell fibre embroidered fabric acts as her canvas and she hand stitches individual kelp sequins into the forms of sand ripples to create a tactile and organic piece of textile art for the wall.
Photographer - Alix McIntosh
